I’ve been running circles… literally, with my Fine Track set, testing both loops and ovals to see how the 16m (35.5mm) chassis performs. My goal has been to get a better feel for the nuances of using Fine Track. Up until now, I had only run the DB ICE 3 set on the standard track with raised roadbed, which worked flawlessly.

Fine Track, however, presents more of a challenge due to its less forgiving fit. It quickly became clear how even the slightest misalignment or bump can cause issues at this scale. My test conditions were far from ideal; the surface wasn’t level, and the track flexed slightly as the engine moved. I experienced some derailments and stalling, but every issue traced back to small gaps or misaligned joints. Once I carefully adjusted the connections, polished the rails a bit, or temporarily secured the track, I could make the operation smooth.

Considering the imperfect setup, I was impressed by how well everything still ran, helped in no small part by the magnetic wheels.

The takeaway is clear: T Gauge can run beautifully, but it demands meticulous attention to track laying and a real respect for the precision this tiny scale requires.
